Course section controls determine grading rules, priority rules, the use of grade sheets and/or classlists, and whether students may take more than one section of the course for credit in a term.

The following controls are established at the Course Inventory level and carry over into course sections when they are created:

The CONTROL fields at the COURSE SECTION level:


Determines whether course section will receive class lists, grade rosters and/or will appear on students transcripts.



Special grading rules of the section.






Session Duplication. Indicates whether a student may take more than one section of a course in a term. If Y, course is an independent study or topics course.



Scheduler Priority Rule of the section. See Scheduling Priority Rules in the Changing Course Information of the Course Inventory Section.

Section controls that are set up at the Course Inventory level should be changed in the Course Term File only under the following circumstances:


In the Special Grading Rules field - if a section of a multi-activity course is not graded.


In the Scheduling Priority Rule field - if different sections of the same course have different priority schemes, such as a section offered specifically for majors only.

To change Section Control information:


Establish the context line by entering the COURSE SECTION and the TERM on Screen 129.


Tab to the Course SECTION CONTROL field that you want to change. Type the appropriate value as described above. To see all acceptable values place the cursor on each field and press PF2, the on-line help key.


After all changes are made, press Enter.
