The basic unit of student academic information is the Academic Program. All students who have matriculated at the University of Pennsylvania have at least one academic program. A listing of all academic programs approved for study is maintained in SRS by the Office of the University Registrar.

In SRS an Academic Program is, at the minimum, a combination of the following:

- division
- degree
- major or graduate group

Division: NUG (Nursing Graduate Division)
Degree: MSN (Master of Science Nursing)
Major/Graduate Group: NUCH (Nursing of Children)

In a larger sense, an academic program also includes additional majors, minors, concentrations, and special programs. See Academic Term Detail for more information on complete academic program information.
